“Untitled” (2016)

Originally intended as illustrations for a calendar, I completed one each month of the year 2016. Now, I like to think of these drawings as unrelated to months. A lot of the time I enjoy drawing things that don’t make explicit sense at first glance and can be open to interpretation and meaning. I drew these freely (without a plan) and I love them, so part of what this body of work represents for me is the idea of freedom to create spontaneously and not question myself or plan too much. Planning itself can be a good thing, but often I get caught up in the weeds of it and end up stunting my instincts. These drawings serve as a reminder to just go with something sometimes and see where it takes me.

Materials/tools: colored pencil, sharpie, and computer printer paper
